Scheduled to launch in late 2010, the Nissan NV will be available in three models, NV1500, NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD, and in two roof configurations - Standard Roof and High Roof. The NV is the first High Roof commercial van to offer rugged body-on-frame construction. High Roof models allow most users to walk and stand in the cargo area.

The NV's rugged, masculine design combines a full-length hood with access to the engine for service and maintenance, along with signature Nissan styling cues such as large headlights and vertical grille. The broad bodysides project a serious commercial vehicle appearance and provide ample room for company logos or advertising messages. The tall, wide doors offer easy access to the cab and cargo areas.

Inside the cab is a roomy comfortable interior with wide, supportive seating and an expansive instrument panel. The passenger seat includes a segment-exclusive fold-down feature, providing a convenient worktable. An available center console offers innovative storage compartments and space to hold binders and a laptop computer. Other convenient storage spaces include a wide overhead console (available with High Roof models) and large door pockets.

The NV also provides exceptional utility, thanks to a long, wide cargo floor, square-top wheelwell housings and nearly vertical sidewalls. Along with maximizing cargo space, the sidewalls accommodate aftermarket storage systems without excessive modification. The cargo area also features a full-length inner panel to prevent cargo from denting the vehicle's outer skin. There are also multiple weld-nut attachment points for mounting shelving and racks.

Powering the rear-wheel drive Nissan NV will be a choice of two powerful yet fuel-efficient engines - a 4.0-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8. Both will be mated to a standard 5-speed automatic transmission.

Highlights of the 2011 Nissan NV commercial van include:

Exterior Features

Yet the all-new Nissan NV (Nissan Van) also has the advantage of Nissan's exceptional commercial vehicle heritage, covering 75 years and more than 75 percent of the global CV market.

"The new kid on the block, as it turns out, is also a long-time player in the global commercial vehicle market. As the first non-domestic nameplate to design, manufacture and sell CVs in the United States, we bring a more than seven-decade tradition of durability, quality and reliability to our products," said Joe Castelli, vice president, Commercial Vehicles and Fleet, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA). "At the same time, we've taken a fresh look at every aspect of the CV business - including styling, powertrain, interiors, cost of operation and ownership, dealership sales and service operations and, most importantly, real world customer needs."

The first production models in Nissan's new North American CV lineup are the 2011 Nissan NV1500, NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD. They will be available with a choice of 4.0-liter V6 and 5.6-liter V8 engines and in two body styles, Standard Roof (all models) and High Roof (NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD only) - with High Roof models offering stand-up walkthrough/work cargo area capability.

"It's been too many years since any manufacturer in this segment has taken a "clean sheet" look at the needs of owners and operators in the CV segment," said Castelli. "We've invested more than five years researching the comfort, style and smart functionality demands that will enable business owners to accomplish more throughout their day. We plan on coming out of the box with segment-busting vehicles, so customer input was essential."

The NV planning team employed a wide range of innovative customer research methodologies, including focus groups, on-site visits and concept reviews. The quantitative and qualitative research took place all across America - Los Angeles, Chicago, New Jersey, Dallas, Detroit, New York, Minnesota, Arizona and other markets. The team met with large fleet owners and managers, small business owners, aftermarket suppliers and converters and rode along with owners of competitive vehicles.

"The NV is one of the most researched projects ever in the history of Nissan. We touched the market at every point possible, with the findings reflected in every aspect of the final NV design," added Castelli.

Comfortable Seating and Standing

Research showed that commercial van owners are the least satisfied of any vehicle segment, with many van owners disposing of their vehicles in favor of light duty trucks despite the compromise of convenience and utility. In developing the new Nissan NV, one of the overarching goals was to combine pickup truck-like comfort, interior amenities and drivability with a cargo van's capacity and security.

"Looking at the CV market in recent years, there's been a migration of van users to light-duty pickups due to the lack of comfort, image and dependability of the current outdated van platforms," explained Castelli. "Yet many of these truck owners admit they need a van for weather protection, security and the convenience of a tall roof van to carry large items or equipment. With the Nissan NV, we're giving them the best of both worlds."

Answering one of the major unmet owner needs - driver comfort and roominess - the Nissan NV interior starts with wide front doors for easy ingress and egress, supportive bucket seating with extensive adjustability, large armrests and a truck-like driving position with ample legroom and foot room. The available center console (removable) provides a range of integrated storage features, while the fold-down passenger seat - which is unique to the segment - adds worktable functionality and enhances the cab's feeling of openness.

Another major contributor to the pickup-like cab is the absence of the traditional CV engine "doghouse" that intrudes into the cab due to the setback engine placement. The Nissan NV utilizes a conventional truck engine layout with the engine and transmission located ahead of the firewall/A-pillar. This not only frees up space under the instrument panel and between the seats, it also provides easy under-hood access to the entire engine for routine service and maintenance.

"From the seats forward the NV looks, acts and feels like a pickup. You don't have to take apart the interior to access the engine and you don't have to worry about tucking your work boots into a cramped footwell," said Castelli. "But, make no mistake, behind the seats the NV is pure, practical van."

The NV's ample cargo area offers a 120.7-inch cargo floor length and 70.3-inch maximum cargo floor width. NV Standard Roof models offer a maximum 55.4 cargo area height, among the tallest in class. The NV High Roof provides a maximum 76.5-inches of cargo room height - enough for most users to move about the cargo area while standing up straight.

"Standard Roof NV models are designed to fit in most garages or go through most car washes and fast food drive-through lanes - along with offering easier reach to access roof racks," said Castelli. "But for so many businesses, the added cargo capacity and the ability to stand up and work inside the High Roof NV will be a priceless enhancement to their everyday operations and productivity."

Smart Functionality and Flexible Layout

Inspired by customer needs and usage, the Nissan NV offers an amazing array of smart functionality features, including storage pockets, spaces and compartments designed to provide secure access to the typical commercial customers" everyday use objects. An under seat drawer, for example, fits small tools, stationary or first aid kits, while the deep door pockets fit flashlights, legal-size binders and clipboards. High Roof models offer an available overhead console designed to hold work gloves, legal size binders, safety glasses and system books. The available center console (removable) fits letter size files and laptop computers - and includes a computer or mobile phone charging point.

"A commercial van must serve many more functions today, including acting as a mobile office for time spent on the road or at a job site," said Castelli. "We've made storage and productivity items integral to the design, rather than tacked-on afterthoughts. The result is a clean, practical and comfortable workspace for a wide variety of professions and businesses."

Along with being conceived as a "mobile office," the Nissan NV is designed to function as a "mobile workshop" - thanks to its simple, flexible cargo area layout. Along with offering wide door openings, the NV offers room between the wheelhouses to accommodate standard plywood or drywall sheets or pallets. There are also a range of cargo area tie-down rings and ample cargo area lighting.

The new Nissan NV was also designed to accommodate aftermarket outfitting and modifications. For example, the roof rack mounting brackets are designed for various rack systems without piercing holes in the roof, which can lead to corrosion and water leaks. The available "upfitter pre-wiring" allows easy access into the electrical system.

The NV also offers a full-length cargo area inner panel to protect the outer walls from dents and dings from the inside, and there are multiple weld-nut attachment points for shelving and racks - again requiring no sheet metal drilling. In addition, the NV's nearly vertical sidewalls maximize the usable cargo space, accommodating common aftermarket storage systems, as well as a bulkhead behind the driver.

Three Well-Equipped Models

Cost of ownership and operation is a critical factor in the CV segment, whether for major fleet operations or individual business owners. "From the rugged fully boxed all-steel frame to the body-on-chassis construction, the NV is designed to the highest Nissan standards of durability, quality and reliability," said Castelli. "The NV is designed to be affordable and to stand up to the abuse that real work trucks face everyday."

The new Nissan NV will launch with a choice of two engines - a powerful yet fuel efficient 4.0-liter V6 or a powerful, torquey 5.6-liter V8. Both engines will be matched to a standard 5-speed automatic.

Safety systems include the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors), 3-point front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, available supplemental front seat-mounted side-impact air bags and roof-mounted supplemental curtain air bags.

The 2011 Nissan NV will be offered in three well-equipped models, the NV1500, NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD. All three models will be available with the Standard Roof, while the High Roof body will be offered in the NV2500 HD and NV3500 HD models only. Additional information regarding standard features, trim levels and optional equipment will be provided later.

The new Nissan NV will be manufactured in Canton, Mississippi and available through a select network of authorized Nissan Commercial Vehicle dealers nationwide. for Nissan’s 2010 entry into North American commercial vehicle market

CHICAGO (March 4, 2009) – Today, at the National Truck Equipment Association’s annual Work Truck Show, Nissan is showcasing its innovative NV2500 Commercial Vehicle Concept. The NV2500 Concept represents a fresh approach to one-box utility vans and is built to highlight Nissan’s approach to multi-purpose utility solutions in the real world.

Not only does the NV2500 Concept provide an original take on Commercial Vehicle (CV) design, it also provides a preview of Nissan’s entry into the CV market in North America. With Nissan CVs already sold in 75 percent of the world’s markets, including Japan, China, Mexico, Europe, South America, Australia and the Middle East among others, Nissan will enter the CV business in North America in 2010.

“As a heretofore untapped market, the commercial vehicle segment in North America represents a strong opportunity for Nissan to grow and strengthen our business,” said Joe Castelli, vice president for commercial vehicles and fleet. “With this new effort, Nissan will deliver innovative solutions to commercial transportation needs, rewarding businesses of all sizes with a range of products and services that exceed expectations.”

The CV lineup will include all-new products developed in North America, as well as vehicles from the global stable. As a result, in the mid-term, Nissan will offer a multi-segment CV lineup up to class 5 gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR).

The first of Nissan’s new commercial vehicles for North America will be built at its manufacturing facility in Canton, Miss. Construction begins this week on a $118 million expansion of Canton’s production footprint to manufacture CVs.

About the NV2500 Concept
The Nissan NV2500 Concept is, as its dimensions suggest, a multi-tasker of large order. One of the largest concept vehicles Nissan has ever produced, the NV2500 Concept, offers fresh design and fresh thinking – including a 3-Zone interior and flexible utility and storage solutions.

“The Nissan NV2500 is a rolling idea lab – bringing a new perspective to the commercial vehicle segment,” said Bruce Campbell, vice president, Design for Nissan Design America, Inc., which developed the NV2500 Concept. “We see the NV2500 Concept as an ongoing exploration of ways to make these vehicles more than just a box on four wheels. Our goal is to enhance utility through creative design solutions, providing a platform for a wide variety of specific professional applications.”

In this configuration, the Nissan NV2500 Concept is designed for construction use. It bears the logo of Habitat for Humanity? only to illustrate the partnership between Nissan and Habitat. Over the past three years, Nissan has donated $3 million in cash, vehicles and house sponsorships, along with thousands of hours of work volunteered by Nissan employees.

The NV2500 Concept’s “wall-less” mobile office/workspace design includes a computer workstation, fold-down conference table, numerous storage compartments, cargo/tool tie-down racks, nearly six feet of interior height and an awning-style side panel that opens to create a standing outside workshop table.

A Solid Workhorse Foundation
The NV2500 Concept is conceived first and foremost as a powerful, multi-purpose utility vehicle. Built on a modified Nissan Titan full-size pickup all-steel, fully boxed ladder frame, engine choices would be selected for competitive power and fuel efficiency. Other under-skin components include an automatic transmission and solid rear axle. The wheels are a special 20-inch billet aluminum design, while the Michelin tires include a special tread pattern designed for a good payload capacity and fuel efficiency.

Dimensionally, the NV2500 Concept has a 147.6-inch (12.3-foot) wheelbase and measures a full 19.5 feet bumper-to-bumper. It stands 8 feet tall and is 6.6 feet wide. Inside, from the front of the passenger compartment to rear door, there is room to carry objects up to 10.5 feet long with the passenger seat moved out of the way.

The NV2500 Concept’s exterior design is highlighted by a wide grille, pronounced wheel arches, stepped roofline, well-defined fenders and unique window and roof treatments. Along with wraparound-style windshield/front door windows, the NV2500 Concept features lower door-glass cutouts and an oversized, fixed-glass roof panel that stretches from behind the B-pillars to the rear doors – adding a visual lightness to the design and illumination to the interior.

The NV2500 Concept’s roof panel includes integrated solar panel technology to power interior equipment, lights and accessories. Additional exterior features include large, retractable outside mirrors, motorized flip-down AMP Research side and rear door steps, LED headlights and taillights, and dual-purpose tow hooks located in the grille that also serve as steps for easier access to the engine compartment.

The most intriguing aspect of the exterior, however, is the multi-use doors. On the driver’s side, the Titan King Cab-style Wide Open Door offers unfettered access to the front of the vehicle, with integrated storage compartments for carrying items such as tool/safety vests, ear protection and first aid kit. In the rear of the NV2500 Concept are vertical 60/40 split cargo access “barn” doors with additional storage compartments and power rear step for walk-through capability and easy access.

The passenger side features a combination of a 90-degree opening vertical door directly behind the front passenger door and an awning-style clamshell panel that hinges upward and locks in place, creating a protected, standing workshop table on the outside and an open “picture window” view from the fold-down interior work desk. The passenger side door also has integrated workshop tool storage with fitted compartments for power saws, drills, screwdrivers and drafting equipment.

“The entire rear wall of the NV2500 Concept opens up so, for example, the construction supervisor can see and communicate with associates without leaving the desk,” said Campbell. “It also serves as an additional, flat workspace that is protected from the elements, providing unlimited flexibility for whatever task might arise.”

An Innovative 3-Zone Interior
Inside the commanding NV2500 exterior is a 3-Zone interior that combines simple, organic solutions with elements of advanced technology.

“The NV2500 Concept challenges the traditional thinking regarding show vehicles, not only in size but in its approach to technology,” said Campbell. “Though it features a number of high-tech features such as a RearView Monitor, navigation system and wireless PC, wherever possible we also used ‘lower-tech’ solutions such as the manually adjusting multi-position passenger/workstation seat and the double-sided workbench that manually converts from an inside table to an outside work surface.”

The NV2500 Concept’s front Driver/Passenger Zone is anchored by a wide instrument panel with a customizable navigation/audio/climate display. The instrument panel also has an accessory power outlet and a built-in retractable power cord. Overhead is a full ceiling storage console with visor shelves, center shelves and a cooling fan that can be powered by the roof-mounted solar cells. Located behind the driver’s seat is a customizable, lighted storage closet designed to hold hardhats, flashlights and work boots – complete with a mudroom-style grated floor for drainage.

Additional storage is provided in the center console’s locking compartment and the instrument panel’s floating shelf. The wide, front-passenger seat can swing rearward on a sliding arm, manually moving and locking into position in front of the workstation console located behind the driver’s seat or pivoting toward the work table. The workstation includes an oversized computer monitor and computer with laser-projected “easy clean” keyboard.

“The passenger seat functions as both a traditional forward-facing seat and a comfortable, swiveling desk chair,” said Campbell. “All elements of the interior are designed to be multi-functional and highly durable, able to stand up to the rigors of heavy use at a job site or other real world locations.”

As fitting of a true work truck, the centerpiece of the NV2500 Concept is the third zone, the Conference Center/Cargo Bay Zone. Dressed in its construction office configuration, this zone includes a fold-down inside/outside workshop table.

With the awning-style side panel in the open position, the table can also flip 180 degree to become a standing-height work surface. Lights on the awning illuminate the table.

Mounted in the ceiling above the side panel is a built-in laser blueprint printer. The wall also includes 110/220W power outlets and areas for the built-in shop vacuum’s air hoses. The opposite wall is dominated by sustainable wood slats for tying down or securing cargo. The engineered sustainable wood flooring includes a custom version of the Titan’s popular Utili-track? cargo tie-down/sliding cleat system. The Utili-track channels run from rear door to front bulkhead on the passenger side of the vehicle. There also are multi-position integrated tie-down hooks and functional task lighting throughout the cargo area.

“The key to the NV2500 Concept’s interior is ingenuity as much as innovation,” Campbell said. “Every element needs to serve high-utility needs for multi-tasking users.”

About Nissan Commercial Vehicles (CV)
Nissan North America, Inc. is entering the CV business through a significant investment in North America as part of its global commitment to the CV segment. Nissan’s first commercial vehicle for the United States will go on sale in 2010 for the 2011 model year. It offers outstanding utility and smart convenience with low cost of ownership, packaged in a highly functional design. With this vehicle, Nissan aims to meet the needs of customers looking for a functional, adaptable light van. We will launch the NV200 in Japan before summer, in Europe in autumn 2009 and then in China and other markets.”

Maximised cargo area
NV200 uses innovative packaging ideas to create the largest and most practical cargo area in its class. Although a little under 4.4m (173.2 in.) in overall length, the van version of the NV200 has a load bay that’s more than 2m long (2040mm/80.3 in.).

With front-wheel drive and the adoption of a highly compact rear suspension system, the NV200 can house two standard Euro pallets in the cargo area at a time. At 1.84m (72.4 in.) high NV200 is no taller than its rivals, while at 520mm (20.5 in.) from ground level, the floor itself is the lowest in the class to ease loading, helping to boost the cargo volume to 4.1m3 (144.8 cu.ft.). Maximum payload is 771kg (1,700 lbs.).

Spacious interior
A large cargo area is a vital attribute for a van, of course, but the generous interior dimensions of NV200 also translate into ample passenger space in the Combi version.Unlike some other manufacturers that fit removable seats – which are invariably heavy to lift and need to be stored elsewhere when not in use – the seats in the Combi stay with the vehicle at all times. The middle row backrest has a 60/40 split to increase versatility and the entire assembly tumbles forward to fold flat against the front seats, while the rear pair fold individually to either side of the load area.

Throughout the creation of NV200, attention has been paid to ensuring the highest levels of quality with shut lines and panel gaps in line with the expectations of passenger car buyers.

While the van optionally is available with a side window it, differs from the passenger versions at the rear where it has twin side hinged “French” doors. Both seven-seaters have a fully glazed top hinged tailgate – though the Combi will be available with French doors - while the windows on both side doors have a sliding section for extra ventilation.

Road car platform
Built on a modified version of Nissan’s B Platform, NV200 has fully independent strut type front suspension mounted on a separate subframe and a compact and lightweight yet robust wide leaf spring rear axle.

Performance comes from a choice of two engines, one petrol and one diesel.

The petrol version will be powered by Nissan’s renowned all aluminium 1.6-litre HR16 engine, as found in Micra, Note and Qashqai. Displacing 1,598cc, the 16-valve unit develops 79kW (105 hp) and 153Nm (112 lb-ft) of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

The diesel, also found on Note and Micra, is Alliance partner Renault’s acclaimed 8-valve 1.5 dCi (K9K) 1,461cc engine. Developing 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque and 63kW (84 hp), it offers an ideal blend of performance, refinement and fuel economy. Power is transmitted through a five-speed gearbox.

To create more space in the cockpit, the gearlever extends not from the floor but from the two-tone wrap around centre console. Above the gearlever, the centre section houses the heating and ventilation controls and the double DIN radio slot. Heating and ventilation extends to all three rows of seats.

Well equipped
The NV200 is available with an optional rear view parking camera, a first for a van in this segment, while the cabin is full of storage spaces, pockets and cup/bottle holders. There is also a secret storage space large enough to hide camera, mobile phones or vital documents within the upper portion of the glovebox.

Joining the parking camera, other car-like items of standard or optional equipment include features such as Nissan’s Intelligent Key, power windows and ESP. Safety equipment includes anti-lock brakes with brake assist (BA) and electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) as standard. Driver and passenger airbags are also standard with side bags available as an option.

Pedestrian safety has also been considered with extra crash absorbing material in the bonnet and the adoption of an energy-absorbing bonnet.

Low cost of ownership
Cost of ownership is projected to be among the lowest in the class thanks in part to the low running costs and high efficiency of the engines and drivetrains, but also thanks to the safety structure which helps to minimise crash damage to vulnerable under bonnet parts such as the radiator.

“With its intelligent layout and packaging helping to give it the largest cargo area in its class, NV200 delivers the right combination of functionality and efficiency. That same practicality can be found in both the Combi and passenger version, but with the added benefit of car-like comfort and features,” said Dominique Correze, Vice President, Nissan’s European LCV Business Unit.

# # #

The passenger version of NV200 will be on the Nissan stand (Hall 4, Stand 4150) at the 79th International Geneva Motor Show. Nissan’s press conference is at 17:00, 3rd March, hosted by Carlos Tavares, Executive Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.

For further information:
http://www.nissaneurope-newsbureau.com
http://www.nissangeneva2009.com

NV200 receives International Van of the Year 2010 Award.

Contact:

Global Manager Communications

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. - LCV Business Unit

(ph) +34 93 290 8927

(m) +34 628 900 255

gcavallo@nissan-europe.com

Rolle, Switzerland (December 4, 2009) - Today, Andy Palmer, Senior Vice President, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd, accepted the International Van of the Year (IVoY) award for Nissan’s segment breaking NV200. The award was given by the IVoY Jury Chairman, Pieter Wieman during a ceremony held at Nissan’s Barcelona plant, where the NV200 is produced for Europe.
The IVoY trophy is awarded every year to the light commercial vehicle which is deemed to have made the greatest contribution to transport efficiency. The jury, representing 23 countries, gave the NV200 an impressive total of 107 points out of a maximum possible 161.

“The Jury was particularly impressed by the fact that Nissan has created a compact light commercial vehicle that sets new standards in terms of internal space in relation to its external dimensions.” Said Pieter Wieman. “The NV 200 is a very well-designed, compact, quality van with good economy”, continued Wieman“.

“We have very ambitious plans for the NV200”, said Palmer. “Globally, we plan to sell our van in markets as different as Japan, Europe and China. We are also considering sales in North America, Indonesia, India and other markets. In Europe we plan to sell over 35 thousand units per year. With such ambitions, the endorsement we receive with the IVoY award is a key asset for us. It will help us boost the awareness of the NV200 and raise its reputation from the start of sales” Palmer concluded.

The NV200 is a real segment breaker with exterior dimensions comparable to a car derived van and cargo capacity of a higher class. It is 4.4m long, 1.86m, tall and 1.69m wide and comes with a cavernous cargo space. Intelligent packaging delivers a cargo load bay more than 2m in length, sufficient to carry two standard Euro pallets at the same time. The cargo floor is the lowest in its category at 524mm. As a result, NV200’s load cube offers a cargo volume of 4.2m3, about 25% or 1m3 more than that of its competitors.

The NV200 is being launched throughout Europe in two configurations: Van and Combi. A family version will join the line-up in 2010. Nissan announced recently that an electric light commercial vehicle based on the NV200 will be the second electric vehicle to be launched for the mass market by Nissan.

# # #

Nissan expands Canton plant as it prepares to build Commercial Vehicles.

Contact:
Steve Parrett
Corporate Communications
Nissan North America, Inc.
O 615-725-1448
C 615-306-9599
www.nissannews.com

Construction on pace for 2010 launch of North American commercial vehicle

CANTON, Miss. One of the largest concept vehicles Nissan has ever produced, the NV2500 Concept, offers fresh design and fresh thinking - including a 3-Zone interior and flexible utility and storage solutions.

Not only does the NV2500 Concept provide an original take on Commercial Vehicle (CV) design, it also provides a preview of Nissan's entry into the CV market in North America. With Nissan CVs already sold in 73 percent of the world's markets, including Japan, China, Mexico, Europe, South America, Australia and the Middle East among others, Nissan will enter the CV business in North America in 2010.

The line will incorporate three all-new products in three years, as well as products from the global stable. As a result, in the mid-term, Nissan will offer a multi-segment CV lineup up to class 5 gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR).

The three new products are being developed by Nissan specifically for the North American market and will be built at Nissan's manufacturing facility in Canton, Miss. Nissan is investing $118 million to expand Canton's production to manufacture CVs.

"The Nissan NV2500 is a rolling idea lab - bringing a new perspective to the Commercial Vehicle segment," said Bruce Campbell, vice president, Design for Nissan Design America, Inc., which developed the NV2500 Concept. "We see the NV2500 Concept as an ongoing exploration of ways to make these vehicles more than just a box on four wheels. Our goal is to enhance utility through creative design solutions, providing a platform for a wide variety of specific professional applications."

In this configuration, the Nissan NV2500 Concept is designed for construction use. It bears the logo of Habitat for Humanity® only to illustrate the partnership between Nissan and Habitat. Over the past three years, Nissan has donated $3 million in cash, vehicles and house sponsorships, along with thousands of hours of work volunteered by Nissan employees.

The NV2500 Concept's "wall-less" mobile office/workspace design includes a computer workstation, fold-down conference table, numerous storage compartments, cargo/tool tie-down racks, nearly six feet of interior height and an awning-style side panel that opens to create a standing outside workshop table.

"Aside from construction site applications, the NV2500 Concept, with its unique configuration and array of features, could be used in infinite ways by infinite users. Whether a mobile Farmers' Market booth, a hot-air balloon launch or chase vehicle or to support a beachside surfing school, the usage possibilities of Commercial Vehicles are endless," he said.

A Solid Workhorse Foundation
The NV2500 is conceived first and foremost as a powerful, multi-purpose utility vehicle.

Dimensionally, the NV2500 Concept has a 147.6-inch (12.3-foot)) wheelbase and measures a full 19.5 feet bumper-to-bumper. It stands 8 feet tall and is 6.6 feet wide. Inside, from the front of the passenger compartment to rear door, there is room to carry objects up to 10.5 feet long with the passenger seat moved out of the way.

The NV2500's exterior design is highlighted by a wide grille, pronounced wheel arches, stepped roofline, well-defined fenders and unique window and roof treatments. Along with wraparound-style windshield/front door windows, the NV2500 Concept features lower door-glass cutouts and an oversized, fixed-glass roof panel that stretches from behind the B-pillars to the rear doors - adding a visual lightness to the design and illumination to the interior.

The NV2500 Concept's roof panel includes integrated solar panel technology to power interior equipment, lights and accessories.

On the driver's side, the Titan King Cab-style Wide Open Door offers unfettered access to the front of the vehicle, with integrated storage compartments for carrying items such as tool/safety vests, ear protection and first aid kit. In the rear of the NV2500 Concept are vertical 60/40 split cargo access "barn" doors with additional storage compartments and power rear step for walk-through capability and easy access.

The passenger side features a combination of a 90-degree opening vertical door directly behind the front passenger door and an awning-style clamshell panel that hinges upward and locks in place, creating a protected, standing workshop table on the outside and an open "picture window" view from the fold-down interior work desk. The passenger side door also has integrated workshop tool storage with fitted compartments for power saws, drills, screwdrivers and drafting equipment.

"The entire rear wall of the NV2500 Concept opens up so, for example, the construction supervisor can see and communicate with associates without leaving the desk," said Campbell. "It also serves as an additional, flat workspace that is protected from the elements, providing unlimited flexibility for whatever task might arise."

An Innovative 3-Zone Interior
Inside the commanding NV2500 exterior is a 3-Zone interior that combines simple, organic solutions with elements of advanced technology.

"The NV2500 Concept challenges the traditional thinking regarding show vehicles, not only in size but in its approach to technology," said Campbell. "Though it features a number of high-tech features such as a RearView Monitor, navigation system and wireless PC, wherever possible we also used 'lower-tech' solutions such as the manually adjusting multi-position passenger/workstation seat and the double-sided workbench that manually converts from an inside table to an outside work surface."

The NV2500 Concept's front Driver/Passenger Zone is anchored by a wide instrument panel with a customizable navigation/audio/climate display. The instrument panel also has an accessory power outlet and a built-in retractable power cord. Overhead is a full ceiling storage console with visor shelves, center shelves and a cooling fan that can be powered by the roof-mounted solar cells. Located behind the driver's seat is a customizable, lighted storage closet designed to hold hardhats, flashlights and work boots - complete with a mudroom-style grated floor for drainage.

Additional storage is provided in the center console's locking compartment and the instrument panel's floating shelf. The wide, front-passenger seat can swing rearward on a sliding arm, manually moving and locking into position in front of the workstation console located behind the driver's seat or pivoting toward the work table. The workstation includes an oversized computer monitor and computer with laser-projected "easy clean" keyboard.

"The passenger seat functions as both a traditional forward-facing seat and a comfortable, swiveling desk chair," said Campbell. "All elements of the interior are designed to be multi-functional and highly durable, able to stand up to the rigors of heavy use at a job site or other real world locations."

The wall also includes 110/220W power outlets and areas for the built-in shop vacuum's air hoses. The opposite wall is dominated by sustainable wood slats for tying down or securing cargo. The engineered sustainable wood flooring includes a custom version of the Titan's popular Utili-track™ cargo tie-down/sliding cleat system. The Utili-track channels run from rear door to front bulkhead on the passenger side of the vehicle. There also are multi-position integrated tie-down hooks and functional task lighting throughout the cargo area.

"The key to the NV2500 Concept's interior is ingenuity as much as innovation," Campbell said. "Every element needs to serve high-utility needs for multi-tasking users."

About Nissan Commercial Vehicles (CV)
Nissan North America, Inc. is entering the CV business through a significant investment in North America as part of a global commitment to the CV segment. Three all-new Nissan CVs are being developed by Nissan specifically for the North American market and will be built in the Nissan manufacturing plant in Canton, Miss., as part of a multi-segment product range of vehicles up to a class 5 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

Nissan will forge partnerships with Cummins Inc. for the engines and ZF Friedrichshafen AG for the transmissions. The first Nissan commercial vehicle is scheduled to be launched in the first half of 2010.

Additional information on Nissan's global commercial vehicle business can be found at www.nissanlcv.com.

About Nissan
In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing. Why can't it be something different, something innovative and smart? Why can't a commercial van also be a mobile office? Or combine workspace and living quarters? Or, for example, a mobile lab for a marine biologist/photographer? Why not?

"A commercial vehicle has a specific job to perform, but that's no reason to design a purely rational vehicle with no warmth," said Shiro Nakamura, senior vice president and chief creative officer, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. "In the Nissan NV200 Concept, function becomes the aesthetic. The NV200 is a highly efficient tool but one with a human touch."

Created by designers from Nissan Design Center (NDC) in Japan and Nissan Design Europe (NDE) in the United Kingdom, the NV200 is a radical, futuristic but entirely practical new concept - inspired by the needs of a marine biologist and underwater photographer. And although developed to answer one user's very specific requirements, the basic concept has serious potential for a wide range of customers and professions.

But imagine the case a marine biologist/photographer. When setting off on an expedition, he or she might take along a mountain of equipment - including underwater cameras and lights, scuba diving equipment, an underwater scooter, computer equipment for downloading digital images, mobile communication equipment to send the images to clients or research centers, clothing, food and water, and perhaps camping or overnight gear. This is typically enough equipment to fill a van, with little space left over for an on-site office. That's where innovation comes in.

A Unique Slide-Out Cargo Pod
At the heart of Nissan NV200 is a patented sliding cargo pod, which is divided into a number of separate areas where different pieces of diving and photographic equipment can be stored.

The pod is latched inside the shell of the load area when the van is being driven. Upon arrival at its destination, it slides out rearwards to allow easy access to the storage zones. The pod is deployed manually with the aid of hydraulic rams, and sits securely on integrated "drop-down" legs when fully extended.

As the pod is withdrawn from the van, the area left behind is transformed into a mobile office and IT dock. A computer table drops down from the side of the van to reveal two LCD screens upon which images can be edited. The front passenger seat swivels backwards on a single curved rail to face the table.

Along with housing diving gear in separate "wet" lockers, the pod holds four air tanks and there's a specially shaped area to securely hold the underwater scooter. Lockable roller blinds protect the contents, while valuable camera equipment can be accessed either from within NV200 or from outside the pod.

From the outside, NV200 is the epitome of a modern van. A cab-forward design, the wraparound grille blends into upswept lines on either side of the cabin. Dramatically rising side windows accentuate a high waistline and underline the van's practical, load carrying ability. The NV200 sits on a long 111.4-inch wheelbase and is 72.4 inches tall, providing a practical, roomy load space.

When the pod is deployed, solar panels built into its roof are directly exposed to daylight. But even when the pod is pushed back into the van, the panels line up beneath the NV200's large skylight. In this way, power can be generated in daylight hours, whether the vehicle is stationary or not.

A two-person tent - accessed from outside the NV200 - is housed at the base of the B-pillar behind the driver's door, while fillers for fuel and water are housed within the opposite B-pillar. The driver and passenger doors open conventionally, while access to the workspace is via a single sliding door on the passenger side.

Underwater and organic references can be found all over Nissan NV200. The purpose-made 20-inch alloy wheels have six "arms" that appear to grip the tires "octopus-fashion." The tread pattern on the large Goodyear tires - also specially created for NV200 - incorporates "octopus suckers" onto trainer-style soles.

Inspiration for the translucent ribs of the wraparound grille came from the layers of an onion. Liberal use of warning signs and instructions found on the exterior of the NV200 were borrowed from the practical graphics found on diving equipment. The exterior has a scratch resistant matt satin finish in a steel gray color to emphasize the "toolbox" nature of the project.

Inspired Interior Details
The NV200's cockpit area combines form and function. The skeletal aluminum seat frames are covered in a washable contoured material similar to the fabric used in sports shoes, with a 3D texture for extra grip.

Large open storage areas run the width of the van beneath the instrument panel and control cluster. Sensors within the storage zones detect movement and illuminate the entire area as soon as a hand or an object is placed in or near the shelves.

Above the front seats is a glass panel incorporating a wave pattern. It bathes the interior in a diffused light, while any outside movement casts shadows in the cabin that resemble life underwater. On either side of the panel are two forward-facing glazed holders into which high-powered professional underwater flashlights can be slotted. When parked, the lights provide a floodlit area ahead of NV200.

The area usually reserved for the rearview mirror holds a small color TV monitor. A rear-facing camera - a familiar Nissan feature that up until now has been used as solely a reversing aid - projects the view behind the van to the monitor at all times.

Other features include a laptop computer housed in a shockproof briefcase made from rugged ribbed plastic. When not in use, the laptop docks into a side of the van beneath the worktable. A magnetic clipboard is attached to the opposite wall of the workspace, while moveable storage boxes are mounted in all three doors.

Natural light for the work surface comes from a small side window above the bank of screens and from a large domed skylight in the roof of the van. In tropical climates, the skylight can be diffused to prevent a build up of heat within the interior.

The end of the pod facing the inside of the van forms a bulkhead behind the front seats when the pod is not deployed and incorporates a hanging space for dry clothes. It also houses a small refrigerator, drop down sink unit and first aid kit. The NV200's tanks hold enough water to supply a shower, fitted on the outside of the pod, to allow diving equipment to be washed after use.

Power for the computer, shower, refrigerator and other electrical fixtures comes from a small generator housed within the van. This, in turn, is charged by solar panels situated on the roof of the pod.

Most of the materials, textures and colors used throughout NV200 reflect the materials, textures and colors used in the diving world. Interior materials are either hardened lightweight plastics or rubberized fabrics finished in a dark gray with acid yellow highlights. The glass is also tinted yellow.

Perhaps the only area not directly influenced by the ocean is the wooden floor of NV200. This is finished in durable but entirely natural ebony, bringing an added touch of warmth to an otherwise serious working environment.

Although the NV200 has been designed to suit the specific needs of one profession, the principle behind the concept has wide ranging potential. The design team also identified mobile libraries, Farmers' Market vendors, florists and even field ambulances among other possible applications of the pod concept.

The NV200 also features an environmentally friendly clean diesel engine. It is equipped with a number of safety systems based on Nissan's Safety Shield concept, including RearView Monitor and Distance Control Assist System.

"Although the Nissan NV200 might, at first glance, appear to be a flight of fancy, the more you study its potential the more you realize it is an entirely practical and feasible project," said Nakamura. "Nissan prides itself on designing its cars to fulfill the needs and requirements of its customers. For NV200, we have taken that guiding principle quite literally and created a vehicle for one specific user. But it is a totally adaptable and flexible concept that could have applications in a number of areas of the market."

The Nissan NV200 Concept originally debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show and has also been displayed at motor shows in Europe.

# # #

Additional information and news from Nissan is available at http://www.nissannews.com.

Nissan NV2500 Concept set for debut.

11.10.2008
Contact:
Scott Vazin
615-725-5238 (office)
scott.vazin@nissan-usa.com

John Schilling
615-725-5264 (office)
john.schilling@nissan-usa.com

Franklin, Tenn. -

Nissan North America, Inc. today announced its Nissan NV2500 Concept. (April 7, 2008) - Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced it is entering the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) business through a significant investment in North America. NNA, as part of a global commitment to the segment, has announced it will introduce to the North American market three light commercial vehicles in three years and forge partnerships with Cummins Inc. for the engines and ZF Friedrichshafen AG for the transmissions.

Leading LCV Business Unit in the United States will be Joe Castelli, who recently has been named Vice President, Light Commercial Vehicle and Fleet, NNA. Key to this new strategy is the Nissan plant in Canton, Miss., which will become the manufacturing center for a range of new LCV products aimed at the significant North American commercial vehicle market.

LCV Entry to North American Market
Nissan will enter the LCV business with three all-new products in three years, developed by Nissan specifically for the North American market and built in Canton. The first of these three products will be launched in the first half of 2010.

In the midterm, Nissan will expand its LCV business in North America, resulting in the creation of a multi-segment product range of vehicles below 8-ton gross vehicle weight (GVW). This initiative will result in the development of the three new products, as well as the future extension of the LCV range.

"Globally, the LCV business is now a substantial part of Nissan's sales and profitability, representing a significant part of Nissan total vehicle sales," said Andy Palmer, Corporate Vice President and head of the LCV global business unit, Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. "We already have major operations in Japan, China and Europe and so it is natural that we are now ready to expand our business in North America."

The LCV Business Unit, which will include all aspects of the LCV value chain at NNA, will be led by Joe Castelli, who recently joined Nissan North America from Ford Motor Co., where he served for more than 23 years in various capacities including commercial-vehicle operations. He will oversee the expansion of the LCV business operations, which includes development, sales, marketing, service and distribution.

The dealer network will be selected from existing Nissan dealers, which will become specialized centers for the sales and servicing of Nissan's new LCV product range. NNA is beginning discussions with its dealer body to prepare for the arrival of LCVs.

Canton, Center of LCV Manufacturing
Nissan's facility in Canton, Miss., will become the designated manufacturing center for three LCVs, in core product segments in which Nissan currently does not compete in North America. In addition to the investment made for the tooling and development of the three vehicles themselves, Nissan will invest $118 million to expand Canton's production facilities to manufacture LCVs,.

"LCVs will become a major contributor to the future success of Nissan in North America," said Bill Krueger, Senior Vice President, Manufacturing, Purchasing & Supply Chain Management and Total Customer Satisfaction, Nissan North America. "It is a tribute to our employees in Canton that it will be the manufacturing hub for these important new products, key to our sustainable growth in the U.S."

In order to accommodate the capacity necessary to manufacture LCVs, Nissan will not produce the next-generation Nissan Quest minivan and Infiniti QX56 luxury SUV at Canton. Further details of the production shift will be announced at a later time.

Powertrain Partnerships
Nissan has partnered with Cummins Inc. for the development and supply of two diesel engines, which will meet 2010 EPA and CARB emissions standards. The engines will be tailored specifically for Nissan. The engines will be manufactured in the United States. Nissan also has partnered with ZF Friedrichshafen AG for the development and supply of an automatic transmission.

Nissan Global LCV Business Unit
Nissan's LCV initiative represents one of Nissan's global success stories. Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn identified expansion of the company's LCV business one of the breakthrough commitments under the Nissan Value-Up business plan - pledging to grow sales volume by 40 percent while doubling profit margin to 8 percent by the end of the 2007 fiscal year.

Last year, Nissan announced that the LCV business unit achieved its Value-Up commitment one year ahead of schedule, a commitment that now has been surpassed through the achievement of global sales volume of 490,000 units in FY06 and exceeding 518,000 units in FY07.

Nissan LCVs are sold in 73 percent of the world's markets, including Japan, China, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East. In Mexico last month, Nissan announced the production of a new LCV pick-up at its plant in Cuernavaca.

Nissan's vision for growth in LCVs strives to attain a leadership position in the global LCV market in 2010. The "LEAP" Agenda for growth calls for: Launching new products; Enhancing quality; Accessing new territories; and promoting Partnerships.

As Nissan launches new products in new segments, the LCV line-up will remain within the limit of 8-ton GVW and will focus on maintaining the highest standard of quality.

Nissan North America, Inc.
In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive styling, design, engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing, distribution and manufacturing.
